Julie Dorfman & Jerry Herst, Evanston, IL. were visitors to the Sons of Jacob Cemetery on Friday, August 11th…..Committee members Rick & Shirley LaFleur & Mike Connor met them for breakfast at Old Main Street downtown Devils Lake in the morning, following breakfast they toured the Lake Region Heritage Center hosted by Lisa Crosby, Curator. Driving to the Sons of Jacob the group were met by Committee member Dennis Kitsch.

They visited relatives graves and spent time checking out the native grass & wild flower area this is part of the Sons of Jacob site.

It was a beautiful, but overcast Friday morning, a perfect day to visit the Sons of Jacob, just as Julie & Jerry left to continue their trip we were cooled by a summer shower!

My grandmother, Bessie Greenberg Steinman, grew upon the homestead farm of Phillip and Molly Greenberg and later in Devil’s Lake. Her family moved to St Paul MN when she was in her early teens. During the years on the farm, 2 children passed away, Charlotte and Israel. I
believe their it graves are still there.

My husband, Jerry Herst, and I are also interested in native prairie plants, so we are especially excited to visit this site from a botanical perspective.
